THE HEROES OF THE MAITLAND DISASTER. [PEESS ASSOCIATION,] (Received July 6, 9.20 a.m.) Sydney, This Day. The National Shipwreck Society has conferred silver medals and certificates of merit on Mr. Russell (passenger), Mr. Henderson (engineer), and Messrs. Phillips, Deuipsey, ' Anderson, and Williams (members of the crew), of the wrecked steamer Maitland, in recognition of their efforts in saving life at the time of the disaster. Melbouene, This Day. The Victorian Cricket Association has negatived -a motion by Mr. H. Trott to withdraw from the Cricket Council. The railway revenue has increased by £5000 as compared with last year's, but shows a deficit of £400,000 on working, or £50,000 more than last year. This is accounted for by the abolition of the percentage reduction on salaries.
