A CCIDENTS AND FATALITIES [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
Invercaegill, This Day. An old resident named Robert Stewart, employed as a. surfaceman on the railway, has been found dnnvned in the Waihopai River. He was working alone on a bridge, and it is supposed that he fell in accidentally. A REMARKABLE ESCAPE. A man named Charles H. Seymour had a remarkable escape from death at Paikakariki this morning. He was lying partly across the raihvay line, apparently the Avorse for liquor, Avhen the train came along, and he^ Avas struck violently by the coAV-catcher, and, fortunately, thrown clear of, the line. When picked up he was, of" course, suffering from the shock, but othenvise, beyond a few bruises, he seemed to be unhurt. He was brought on to Wellington, aud conveyed to the Hospital by Constables Bree and Thompson. Upon enquiry at the Hospital this afternoon Aye learn that there is nothing serious the matter Avitb Seymour, and he is progressing satisfactoi'ily. Yesterday, a lad named Charles Fleming fell through a skyligfat at the Golden Rule Bazaar, and dropped a distance of about 15ft. He appeared to be badly hurt, and was taken to tho Hospital, but on enquiry there to-day we learn that he ia progressing very favourably. While working at the Parliamentary Buildings this Wtoming, a young man named George Heart had his foot crushed with an iron gUrder. He is progressing satisfactorily at t tie Hospital.
