At the half-yearly meeting of the Commercial Banking Company a dividend at the rate of 8 per cent, per annum was declared, and £15,250 was uarriedfi'orward. A sum of £250 was allotted for presenting Mr. Dibbs, geueral manager, with a suitable memento of his 50 years' connection with the ban k, 30 having been spent as manager. The report was adopted. The Postmaster-General promised a deputation representing the churches aud temperance bodies that the Government will immediately re-introduce the Local Option Bill. • It is intended ito provide fora general timely notice to the publicans. Good general rains are- falling. The season is favourable, and the crop prospects are good. Melboubne, This Day. Lady Brassey, who had two ribs broken in a riding accident, is steadily improving. (Received July 24, 10.20 a.m.) Melboubne, This Day. The half-yearly report of the Broken Hill Proprietary Company shows the net profits to have been £147,000, of which £144,000 was distributed in dividends. The reserve now stands at £630,000. From ' January next it is proposed to pay dividends quarterly. The half-yearly report of the Commercial Bank of Australia shows profits to the amount of £52,500. It is proposed to pa\ r a 2 per cent, dividend on the preference shares, and add £33,000 "to the special reserve account, and carry forward £6000.
