ARRIVAL OF THE GOTHIC, FROM LONDON.
The White Star liner Gothic, from London via Plymouth, Teneriffe, Capetown, and Hobart, arrived this afternoon. Her dates of departure are aa follow : — London, 9th June ; Plymouth, 11th June; Capetown, 2nd July ; Hobart, 5 pm on the 20th. Particulars of her cargo and movements, as -well as her passenger-list, have already been published. Messrs Levin and Co are the local agents Capt M'lntyre, of the Manaroa, sighted the ketch Clematis, bound from Lyttelton to Havelock, off the Brothers yesterday afternoon Mr Harlbw, purser of the Mahinapua, is to be transferred to the Richmond, Mr Watts, of the Dingadee, taking up the duties on the Mahinapua. The vacancy on the Dingadee will be filled by Mr Grlmwood, assistant purser of the Tara■wera By the Dingadee, from Auckland and East Coast, 2000 ft timber, 1000 cases kerosene, and a quantity of transhipments ex Mariposa from San Francisco, were brought to Wellington A private telegram received in town intimates that the barque Woosung. now in charge of Capt Fry. formerly of the William Hanson, is under orders to sail from Auckland for New Caledonia ' Bay and night shifts are being employed on the repairs to the Wainui. The stem-piece has been removed, and was taken to Cable's foundry yesterday for repairing .A small line of dairy produce, consisting of 150 boxes butter, came from Taranaki by the "M>frfaft. pua this morning This morning a start was made to lift the engines out of the Arawata, but the crane failed to act its part, and the steamer was taken back to her moorings in the stream Owing to the accident to the Corinna, the Janet Nicoll, leaving Dunedin on Monday and arriving in ■Wellington on. Thursday, will take up the ditabied steamer's time-table running. The Janet Nfcoll leaves for Westport direct on Thursday, and from Wellington for South on the following Saturday 'From Gwymouth the Union Co is informed that » strong south-west wind is blowing there. There is a heavy sea running, and the bar is dangerous for crossing. The Omapere, from Westport, is in the roadstead. It is now intended to despatch the Mawhera from Wellington in the Omapere' s place on Tuesday, 'the latter steamer taking up the Mawhera's running from this port on Friday A heavy south-west gale ia reported in the Strait today Messrs Johnston and Co are advised from Wanganui that a heavy south-west gale is raging there and big sea, which will prevent the Huia tendering the Star of Victoria in the roadstead The Manaroa is taking up to Foxton a quantity of gear to be used in floating the Whanimroi
