BOWLING. THE NEXT TOURNAMENT AT NAPIER.

At a meeting of the Council of the Northern Bowling Association held last night to arrange the " when and where " of the next tournament, replies to a circular sent to all the affiliated clubs asking for an expression of opinion were read, and in compliance with the general ' wish the following decisions were come to : — That the next tournament be held at Napier in January, 1898 ; that matches be confined to inter-club and Champion Fours, played simultaneously (that is, in the inter-club matches the Champion Four.-! team 7 of the one club will be pitted against the Champion Fours team of the other club, the scores to count for both matches) ; that the maximum number of rinks from any one club be limited to three, the minimum to two. An expression of opinion having also been sought from the clubs on Mr. Thomson's (of Auckland) notice of motion, given at one of the Committee meetings in connection with the last tournament — " That no bowls drawing less bias than Taylor's No. 3 be allowed as playable at future matches," and unanimous replies in favour of it having been received, the Council passed the following resolution : — " That clause 18 of the Northern Bowling Association's laws of the game (referring to bowls) be excised, and that rule No. 2 of the Laws of the Game of the Scottish Bowling Association be substituted, with the exception of the footnote to same, for which will be substituted the following : — That the Northern Association supply each centre where clnbs playing under the Association's rules are in existence with a standard howl, stamped by the Association."
