[by telegraph— own cobeespondent.] Masterton, This Day. A meeting is to be held here next week -with the object of forming a Chamber of Commerce. An effort is to be made by the Masterton public to secure the immediate connection of Masterton with the Gladstone district. In the Magistrate's Court this- morning four settlers were lined £1 each for exposing for sale sheep infected with lice, and two settlers £2 each for a breach of the Rabbit Act in failing to take the necessary steps to destroy rabbits. The informations were laid by Inspector Miller. A pigeon-shooting match in connection with the North Wairarapa Gun Club took place yesterday, when Mr. M. C. O'Connell's trophy was won by J. J. M'Kersey, and Mr. Mandel's cup by T. H. Thompson. A meeting of ratepayers was held last night when the question of water supply was thrashed out. A poll on the proposal to» raise a loan of £15,000 is shortly to be taken.
