COLONIALS IN THE IMPERIAL PARLIAMENT.

MR. REID'S VIEW OF THE PROPOSAL. NEGOTIATIONS AS TO MR. EDDY'S SUCCESSOR. (Received July 23, 10.30 a.ra.) London. 22nd June. Mr. Reid opened a bridge at the Sunlight Model Village Settlement, built by Messrs. Lever Bros., of Birkenhead, of Sunlight Soap fame. In the course of his speech, he said Britain, instead of showing the weight of a thousand years, was younger 1 than ever. At an interview with a press representative, Mr. Reid gave an assurance that the presence of colonial representatives in the Imperial Parliament, would renew the troubles of the old era of colonial administration. Australians, he added,/ were nice fellows when free, but mighty tii'oublesome if lassoed. \ Mr. Reid has consulted a high railway authority with the view of .securing a successor to the late Mr. Eddy as Railway Commissioner of New South Wales. He stipulates that the gentleman appointed must follow Mr. Eddy's policy. He has found it impossible to conclude the negotiations before leaving England, but is hopeful that he will ultimately secure the man he wanted, x Bbisbane. This Day. A New Electors Bill has been introduced into the Legislative Assembly. It reduces the residential qualification from six to two mouths, and provides that the ballot papers shall not be rejected through mere informalities.
