FATAL FALL OVER A CLIFF.
The police received news shortly before 8 o'clock this morning that the body of a man was lying on the road at the bottom of a cliff near the Kaiwarra bridge. Constables Carroll and M'Leod proceeded to the spot, and there found Mr. John M'Keown, milkman, ot Wadestowu, dead. On his head was a nasty scalp wound, his forehead was bruised, aud his knees were cut about. There was every indication that the unfortunate man was on his way home to Wadestown at some . ..hour last evening, when he must have fallen over the cliff at the foot of which his body was found. His hat and one of his shoes were missing, but these may have come off during the fall, M'Keown was an elderly niau, somewhat above middle age, and lived with a married daughter at Wadestown.- The body was removed" to the Morgue. ' "
A couple oftvery serious accidents occurred in the Kaikorai btcond. and Pirate second ' football match on Saturday, at Dunedin, - although the play was anything but rough. Maxwell, full back of the Kaikorai team, while running back for the ball, came into violent collision with a goal post, and sustained internal injuries of such a severe nature as to imperil las life ; and Davidson, a Pirates player, tripped and broke his leg. Both players were taken to the hospital.
