FOOTBALL. ■•t THE NEW ZEALANDEES ON TOTJR. QUEENSLAND'S SECOND SIXTEEN BADLY BEATEN. [PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Brisbane, 21st July.

I ' There was a fair attendance for the midweek match New Zealand v. next sixteeu of Queensland, with fine weather and a strong breeze. The local men were out-matched in every department of the game. The game was notable for the improved form shown by a number of the New Zealanders who hitherto have not come to the front. Glennie piayed in better style than- in any previous match. The same may be said of Harris. Allen, as centre three-quarter, was brilliant, while Humphries came nearer his Sydney form. In the lorward division Blair and Pauling got in great work, and Smith's clever running materially helped his side. The Queenslanders won the tjoss, and had the advantage of sun and wind. Early in the game Allen, getting the ball from the scrum, crossed the Queensland line. Humphries kicked a goal. After the kick off Martin got the ball from the line out, invaded New Zealand ground, and managed to struggle over. Gralton failed to convert the try into a goal. The third of a series of free kicks to Queensland resulted in Gralton obtaining a penalty goal, making honours even. The game then became lively. From a line out near the* centre Pauling got away and scored, but Wilson failed in the kick at goal. The best piece of passing of the day then took place. The ball went from Humphries to Allen, thence to Bayly, who sent it on to Roberts, but tbe latter missed the ball close to the local goal Hue. The advantage was neutralised by half-time. On resuming Queensland were soon defending themselves, and had to force. A great rush, and a good pass from Humphries to Glennie and then to, Allen resulted in' the latter scoring. Humphries placed an easy goal. Queensland were again in difficulties and had to force. Then they drove the ball into the New Zealand twenty-five, where Orchard nullified a mistake by Glennie. New Zealand were kept in their quarters for a while, but Pauling carried the 1 leather to the centre. Harris then niswle a run and passed to -Hard castle, who- sent the ball up to Gle,nnie, and. the latter ]gave. it' to Smith, -whojscored. ' Humphries converted the try into a goal. No sooner had play started again than, Wilson got his chance, and, |lip'p i ed acr'o^ Jhe, luje. He took the kick, buti failed in*. w'Hat seemed an easy shot. Again a dodgy run, ending with a kick by Smith, caused Queensland to force. The local men were continually on the defensive. Blair led. a rush, dodged the full-back, and scored. 'Pauling failed in 'the kick at goal. When play was resumed. Wells got the ball from the line out, and passed to M'Kenzie, had a clear run in. Humphries converted the try into a goal as time was called, tjbe scores being--- ', • i New Zealand 29 Queensland 5 Saturday's match will be played on the Exhibition ground. This will be done in the interest of the spectators, but the ground is very much harder than the Union ground.
