« [PBESS ASSOCIATION.] London, sth December. I A severe south-east gale has been experienced at Brighton. The chain pier was carried away. Mr. A. B. Miles has been appointed manager of the George Webster estate, and a member of his firm proceeds to Australia to administer it. Shanghai, sth December. , Loh Fing, who has been interpreter for Li Hung Chang, has been appointed Chinese Envoy to England. Bombay, 4th December. Several Europeans have died here from the bubonic plague. (Received December 7, 10.25 a.m.) Paris, 6th December. The Brest marine artillery in celebrating a Saint's day attacked the fort artillery with v stones and sabres. Many men of both Companies were wounded. An enquiry has been ordered. New Yobk, 6th December. A movement is on foot to present Mr. Bayard, the American Minister in Great Britain, with a national Christmas gift. Vienna, 6th December. Two military officers who insulted a party of citizens in Olmutii were afterwards waylaid and severely maltreated.
