THE TURKISH CAMPAIGN AGAINST THE DRUSES.

Druse messengers from the Hauran succeeded in reaching the Lebanon a few weeks ago, with news of the capture of Suadet, the capital of the Hauran,. by the Druses. It appears that the Druses finally attacked the place after having besieged it for some days. They had two captured guns with them, and as they did not understand the working of them they compelled some Turkish artillerymen whom they had previously taken prisoners to serve the guns against the castle of, Suadet, which was held by 1200 to 1600 Turkish troops under Mamduh Pasha. By means of these guns they made a breach in the castle wall, which they then endeavoured to enter.. The garrison, however, beat them back again and again, and it was not before 600 Druses had fallen that a passage was at last forced, and the Druses, . maddened by the resistance they had met and the heavy losses they had sustained, put the whole garrison, numbering as above mentioned 1200 to 1600, to the sword. Mamduh Pasha was made prisoner. It is reported that the Turkish troops massed at Sheikh Miskin, half-way between Damascus and tho Hauran, refused to move forward unless proper provision were made for their sustenance in the enemy's country.

There were cloven childrenborn of tho first Duchess and there are six by tho second. Tho poor, dear Duke Bays:— "lf it wasn't for the quality and cheapness of Staples's ' Kangarotte ' boots, I could never rub along." — Advt.
