THE CHILDREN'S FETE.

A meeting of those interested in arranging a children's f6te was held in the City Council offices yesterday afternoon. The Mayor (Mr. Fisher) presided, and rejid apologies from Archdeacon Fancourt and the Rev. J. Reed Glassou. The Mayor said he thought the movement one which the ministers of every parish ought to take an interest in, as it was work for them particularly. The movement was one which commended itself to all who had the welfare of the younger folk at heart. The business of the afternoon would be to organise the matter. Whatever funds remained ondiand at the • conclusion of the ffite would be set apart ior future years, as it was intended to make the movement a permanent one. The following officers were, elected : — President and Patron, Lady Glasgow ; VicePresidents, Mesdames G. Fisher and R. E. Bannister, and all the clergy ol the city who would take office ; Treasurer, Mrs. W. A. Chappie; Secretary, Miss Lockie. The election of trustees was postponed until a future meeting. It was decided to restrict the canvassing to the commercial houses instead of making a house to house canvass. The Mayor estimated that £100 would be sufficient to defray all expenses, and this should be easily raised by the proposed canvass, and the two performances which the Dramatic Students have generously offered to give for the fund during the first week in October. »
