Melbourne, 27th August. Baron yon Mueller has reported Btrongly against the proposed introduction of American phylloxera -resisting vine stook outtings. He Bays that the outtingt are only resistant to a certain extent, and that it is impossible to really disinfect in regard to the pest. It may exist, though unobsorvable, nnder ordinary oironmstances, and the only safe method, he says, is to get seeds of resisting kinds, and raise stooka for grafting. Lost year he obtained a large quantity of suoh Boed from America and France, and the stooks are now available for growers. The Chief Justice, Sir John Madden, has granted the neoessary order for tbe compulsory winding-np of tbe City of Melbourne Bank.
