■ r ♦ Ipbbss association.} : Adblaidk, 22nd August. In the Legislative Assembly, the Treasurer (Mr. Holder) delivered the Budget speech this evening. The defioit for the year is .£9B COO, and would have been rnnoh larger bnt for the most oareful economy. Tho revenue for the coming year is' estimated at £2,426.000, and , the expenditure at .£2,419,G00. The KbUi mates have been rednoed by .£61,000, including £30,000 from salaries. The exemptions ; have been reduoed from .£l5O to .£75, and the reduotions will now be as follows:— On . salaries of from 475 to .£l5O, 5 per oent. ; . from .£l5O to .£300, 10 per cent. ; Irom .£3OO j to .£600, 15 per oent. ; over £600, inoluding I Ministers, 27i per cent. The loan money in , hand amounts to £750,000. During the next five years tbe Government would have to pay nearly £3,000,000, but it oould not be done, and Ministers would have to pay what they oould, and renew the bills at a better rate. It was intended to introduce a Bill to provide for the gradual extinction of the publio debt as opportunity offered. They would abstain from paying £60,000 which , fell due this year.
