Clashing Interests of France and Britain.
[rSEBB ASSOCIATION.] London, 21st August. Mr. Curzon, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, replying to a question by Sir Charles Dilke in the House of Commons, aaid the Government polioy with regard to Siam would, when the time arrived, be to vindioate the political and commercial interests of England, and seonre the autonomy and integrity of Siam. The French expeditions on the Niger, he added, had returned, and the French Government fully reoognised the rights of Britain in that distriot, The conditions whioh would render tho evaluation of Egypt possible had not yet been fulfilled. In reply to another question, he said that England expeoted a share in the trade advantages granted to Franoo by China under the reoent treaty. Mr. H. M. Stanley said the evacuation of Egypt could only follow the silent forces ofoivilisation.inoluding the railway to Uganda. (Reoeived August 23, 10.40 a.m.) London, 22nd August. In the House of Commons Mr. Curzon stated that Franoe had been oloarly informed of the British claims on the Mekong, and the British military oooup&tion of Mongsin was a Bignifiomt deolaration on the subjeot.
