WELLINGTON VOLUNTEER RIFLE ASSOCIATION.

♦ A meeting of the Wellington Volunteer Eifle Association was held in the Dciilshcd last evening. Captain Collins, Chairman of the Provisional Committee, presided, and stated that the Committee had decided to reoommend that the Association should be purely a Voluuteer Association, devoted to the onoouragement of rifle shooting. The Committee presented a report containing rnles which it recommended should be adopted. A letter was read from Lient.-Cbl. Newall, promising to do all in his power to support the Association. 'ihe Chairman said it was intended that for tho present the Association t-hould embraoe only the city and Petone, bnt it was thought thivt after a while the diatriot should oxtond as far as Taranaki and Hawkes Bay. Ifc was decided that honorary members should pay £1 Isayear, and active mombers 5a j that the eiocutivo committee should consist of two representatives from eaoh corps ; that the riaes to be uaed should be tuooo issued to companies ; and that every member of tho Now Zealand Defenoe Force stationed in Wellington shonld be allowed to compete at the Association meetings. The rules wore adopted, after several amendments had been made. Colour- wgt. Davis (City Bines) moved that it shonld bo a suggestion to tbo Comnuttoe that the ladies of Wellington should be asked through, the Officor Commanding the District to present a district bolt. The motion was seoonded by Private Aumodt (Guards), and agreed to. Sergt. Jackson (City Rifles) stated that a gentleman had offered to make a district belt free of oharge if the materials were supplied to him. .. -Lieutenant-Colonel Newall proposed that the Governor should be elected Patron of the Association His Exoellenoy had taken a great interest iv the volunteers, and it would be a graoefnl oompliment to plaoe him in the position of Patron. The motion was seconded by Captain Johnson (Heretaunga Mounted Eifles), and agreed to. On the motion of Liontenant-Commanding Campbell (Wellington Navals), sooended by Sergt. Jackeon (City Bines), Colonel Fox was eleoted President. Sir James Prendergast, Sir Robert Stout, Messrs. n. D. 8011, J. Duthie, A. de B. Brandon, W. H. S. Moorhouse, J. Dnnoan, and the Mayor of Wolhngton were eleoted Vice-Presidents : Capt. Collins (City Bifles), Hon. Treasurer ; Private Edinger (Guards), Secretary: and Lieuts. W. G. Duthie (City Bifles) and J. Duthie, jun. (Guards), Auditors. Tho Seoretary s remuneration was fixed at £5 ss. A vote of thanks to the Chairman oonoluded the proceedings.
