UNEMPLOYED RELIEF WORKS.

» The Mayor told the City Council last night that the relief works were fast relieving t);o oongestion in tho labour market. For in; stance, whereas a fortnight ago nearly 60 poraons applied for work at gorse ontting, there were only 22 applicants on Wednesday, 15 of whom were engaged, and the remainder were taken on at the relief works. Councillors said there was still a great amount of gorse on the City Koaorves whioh required to be oleared away. The City Counoil has given its patronage to the oonoert whioh is to be held in the Opera House on Thursday, 22nd instant, in aid of tho Belief Fund. Up to the present time 183 orders for employment on tho rolief works have been isauod, but only 130 men were at work today. A donation of .£1 la from W. C. FitzGerald is acknowledged to-day.
