A HEARTLESS MOTHER.
SHE CONFESSES HAVING DROWNED HKR CHILD. [PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Melbourne, 14th Angnst. Tho mother of tho murdered boy Williams (whoso body was found in the Port Melbourne lagoon with a stone around the neck) is a yonng widow, who since she lost her husband has lived a loose life. Three times she abandoned tho ohild. On one occasion a woman was willing to adopt it, but then appcalod to tho Court, and, failing to got a remedy, left it with the Magistrate, Mr. Pan ton, and cleared out. Tho child was then handed to tho police. Mrs.. Williams has confessed that she' took the child to tho lagoon and tied a atone to its waist while the infant was laughing at the water, and thon Bhoycd it in. The reason given is that the people where she lived were always grumbling about " the poor mortal crying for its mother."
