HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.

An ordinary meeting of the Hntt Conntj Conncil was held this morning. Present— Councillors H. Cook (Chairman), J. Wake, ham, C. W. Brown, D. Speedy, F A Majendie, F. Bradey, H. A. Field, and G. Brown. Councillor Jillett was granted leave of absence. A sum not exceeding £5 was voted towards making a sledge traok to Mr. Harris 1 section in the Horokiwi Riding. The Secretary to the Treasury wrote approving of the Council's application for a loan of for repairing the damage done m the Wainuiomata Jiiding by the Easter floods. Mr. H. Hume wrote suggesting that his claim for compensation in respect of the land taken for the Johnsonv 110-Ohariu road should be Bettled by arbitration. 'The matter was left in the hands of the Councillors for the riding. Councillor Field was appointed to deal with a misunderstanding which ha.B arisen between the Council and Inia Tuhata, in reference to land required for the purpose of a county road in _ the Whareroa Biding. A number of objections from property-owners to the Council taking land on the same road, was deferred for consideration till the next meeting. The Government Road Surveyor wrote advising that the site of the Parkvale-Wai-kanae road railway crossing had been altered , and the alteration would necessitate fresh arrangements being made with the owner of the land, as it would take about a quarter of an acre more land. Councillor Field was appointed to deal with the matter. The Inspector of Roads reported, among other matters, that a groin was now being pat in the river bed above the Pokuratahi Bridge for protective purposes, and that the Government Road Surveyor had passed the work done on the Hutt-Waikanae road out of the grant received from the Government. The amonnt received in rates Bince last meeting was .£BS 2s sd, and summonses had been taken out against 19 defaulters. The report was adopted. Councillor G. Brown proposed that the Government should be requested to amend the Dog Registration Aot, so as to provide that the minimum tax on any dog should not be less than 10s, but the motion lapsed for want of a seconder. The Clerk was instructed to notify all persons who had not paid their Dog Tax that they wonld be sued if the fees are not paid within 21 days from date. Accounts amonnting to .£696 19s 9d were passed for payment.
