CITY COUNCIL.

Tbe following recommendations of the Publ o Works Committee of tho City Counoil will be considered by the Council on Thurs. day evening : —That the question of the proposed repairs to Shannon-street bo.roferred to the City Surveyor for further consideration and report ; that with reference to olause 13 of last report, a wooden breastwork be put up at the property mentioned theroin if the owrior will contribute half the cost of the work, snoh half coatbeing estimated at -S10 ; that the claim of Messrs. Moriaon and Atkinson, on behalf of Mr. M. Fitzgerald, on account of an alleged accident in Tinakoriroad, be not entertained, the Committee being of opinion that every precaution was taken to prevent any accident oconrring ; that tho suggestions of the City Solicitor with referencn to tbo amendment of the electric lighting contract bo approved; that the request of Messrs. Menteath and Beere as to transfer of the lease of section G6, reclaimed land, bo not granted, the consent of tbo Counoil to such transfer being unnecessary ; that a drain be laid to carry off the storm water in St. John-street; that a footpath be formed in front of the newly, orocted cottages on tho north side of Meinstreet, opposite the Nontown Sohool ; that a retaining wall be constructed at the top end of Upper Foatherston-terrace (north side), and the footpath completed it tho owner of the property will contribute half the oost of the work ; that lamp No. 509, Tborndon - quay, be removed a few feet further north in order that the owner of the Royal Hotel may erect a large aro lamp in front of same ; that the neoesaary steps be taken for the removal of an old cottage in Martin-street, reported to bs unfit for habitation ; that Mr. S. Waters be informed that tho Connoil regrets being unable to aooodo to his application for compensation for the amount expended by him in putting up brick-nogging at his property ; that consent bo given to a mortgage of Pahiatua lancj, as applied for by Messrs. Kirk, Atkinson and Wilson; that three crossings (one at Lambton-quay, one at Taranaki-Btroet, and one at Moieaworthstreet) be repaired, and that a report be furnished of all other crossings in the city required to be repaired; that accounts amounting to £119 9s 7d be passed for payment,
