THORNDON BO WLING CLUB.

. + Tho first annual meeting of the Ihorndon Bowling Club (Limited) was held in the Occidental Hotel last evening. There was a good attendance, and Mr. G. Leslie was voted to the chair. The report referred to the stops taken by the liquidators of the old Thorndon Club in winding up that club, and to the subsequent successful efforts made by anumber of gentlemen interested in bowlingin forming tha present club. Thirty-five shareholders were now on tho company's register, representing 53 shares taken np, and tho directors felt confident of opening the season with at least 60 membora. Steps had been taken to repair the damage done to the green, whioh looks now in better oondition than ever previously. The caretaker's services were dispensed with during the receßß, thus saving at least £30. A debt of £180 was taken ovor from tbe liquidators, and to meet this liability debentures would be issued in a few days. Another liability taken over from the liquidators was that of the oall of 30s made by the oommittee of the old olub. In order to meet this it was Bettled that the amount paid should bo treated as the final liability on eaoh £5 share in tho Thorndon Bowling Club (Limited). The company wag at present practically free from debt, with the exception of the liability of £180. I The directors had deoided to make the annual subscription of £2 2s payable on tbo 25th September next, in order to pro- ! vide the funds to carry on operations. Mr. J B Hoywood had been appointed to fill the vacanoy in the direolorato left by Mr. Cattail's departure from Wellington. A statement of the receipts and expenditure showed the receipts to be £SH Is 7d, and the balance in hand to be £12 19s 4d. Mr. Flanagan proposed that the word " final " be struck ont in the sentence referring to the liability on each £5 share. This motion was lost. Mr. Roao proposed, and Mr. Nathan seconded, " That the amonnt paid Bhall be credited to each shareholder at suoh times and in such amounts as the directors may decide." This was oarried, and the report amended accordingly. A letter waß read from the Secretary of the Wellington Bowling Club, asking for an expression of opinion as to the establishment of a Wellington single-handed bowling championship. Mr. J. C. M'Kerrow deprecated entering into too many matches, and thus subordinating the enjoyment that shonld be the real end of bowling. After a disenssion on the subject of matches, a motion was oarried — proposed by Mr. Flanagan and seconded by Mr. Nathan — that tbe oommunioation be acknowledged, and that the subject would receive careful consideration as soon as the season started. Votes of thanks to the dirsotors for their servioes, and to the liquidators of the old olnb for their assistance, were carried with aoolamation, on tho motion of Messrs. J. Nowton and J. C. M'Kerrow respectively. A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the business.
