[press association J Auckland, 9th Augnst. Sergeant Lyons and a detachment of Wellington constables from Galatea returned to Auckland this evening. They are in good health, but suffered a great deal from the exposure and the oold weather. Sudden mortality among cattle at Ohaupo, Waikato, is atfcraotinjr attention. Mr. D. Ross, Inspeotor of Stock, has sent to Wei lington for Mr. Gilrnth. Wanqanui, 9th August. The old building known as the " Ocoidenta Hotel" was gutted by fire to-day. There were no inßuranoes. Auckland, This Day. At an inquest at Hukerenui on Thomas Broome, a gumdigger, aged 76, formerly of the 58th Regiment, and who was through the Northern War, the jury returned a verdiot of Death from Natural Causes, and added a rider " That it is a disgrace to New Zoaland that an old soldier died in obscurity, beine neglected, and never getting any assistance from the Government for his services."
