THE COUNTIES' CONFERENCE.
An informal meeting of the New Zealand Counties' Conference was held in the offices of the Uutt County Council this morning. Mr. Yon Reden, the President, was unable to bo present, and Mr. Fraser, M.H.R. (Vincent and lake Connty Councils), was voted to the chair. The other delegates present were— Messrs. G. C. Williams (Bay of Islands), A. E. Harding (Hobcon). E. Edwards (Übinomuri), F. VV. Lang, M.H.R. (Raglan),Capt.M-Mahon(Waitemata),A. H. Mason (Wanjanui), M. M'Padden (Buller), M. Hannan (Grey), W. Irving (Inan^ahua), I. Mackenzie, M.H.R. (Clutha>, J. Allen, MH.R. (Bruce). F. R. Flatman, M.H.R. (Maokenzie), R. Logan (Manictoto), R. M'Nab, M.H.R. (Southland), J. Grimmond (Westland), F. A. Majcndie (Hutt), C. Phillipß (Wairarapa .South), B. J. Harris, M.H.B. (Mangero), W. Masaoy, M.H.R. (Monnt Albort), F. Lawry, M.H.B. (Mount Eden), and J. H. Davison (Arauri). It was explained that as a numbor of delegates had oomo to Wellington under the impression that tho Conference wonld begin yesterday, and as they would not be able to wait until the 23rd instant, the dato to which tbo Conference had been adjourned, it had been considered desirable to hold an informal meeting in order to hear their views. After some discussion, it was decided that, in order to avoid inconvenience, the business should begin at 2 o'olock Una afternoon, and Messrs. C. Philips, J. Grimmond, and Captain M'Mahon were appointed a deputation to wait upon the Premier, aud ascertain whether he oonld let the Conference have a copy of the Local Government Bill. Tho > ooretary (Mr. H. D. Atkinson) was direoted to telegraph to all absent delegates, requesting their immediate attendance. Un resuming, it was announced that the Premier declined to furnish a copy of tho Local Governmant Bill until it had boon laid before the House. The Conference adjourned till Tuesday.
