The natives at Te Whaiti threatened to tie up the native guide to Mr. Phillips, surveyor, if he persisted in proceeding with the latter to show the country cr the trig stations. Inspector Emerson wired to the Defence Minister as to the position of affairs. The co operative works arc being pushed on, Mr. L. Beßt having oharge of the gangs. The Permanent Artillery at the North Shore have received order b from the Defence Minister to hold themselves in readiness to again proceed to the Uriwera at Bhort notice if necessary.
