Wellington Liedertafel.

The annual meeting of the Wellington liedertafel was held at the Art Gallery last evening:, Mr. A. Gray in the chair. Apologies were received from the President (Mr. Tolhuret) and Viee-Presidont (Mr. Pearce). The annual -report and balanoe • sheet showed that.on taking office for the second year the Committee found a membership of 50 active and 47 snbsoribing members. Since then 16 subscribers have resigned and 14 active members hod reti' ed from the Society for variona reasons. During the year the Committee regret to report the death of Mr. Widdop, who has -for many years been connected with the chief musical orgenisations of the city, end that of Mr. R. J. S. Todd Both of these deceased took an active interest in the welfare of the Society. There were now 87 subscribing and 47 active members, making a total of 134 members subscribing to tbe funds of the Society. During the season 1894-5 the Sooiety held five comcerts. The gemuchter have been found to be the more popnlar, probably from the fact of the Introduction of ladies to these con certs. Members afforded very meagre and totally inadequate support to the oontribntion fund for refreshments at smoke concerts. Theamonntexpendedattheseeonoertsdnring the year has been .£l2 2s 6d, and the collections only £6 6a. A debit balance of .£SB 2s 6d, incurred in the initial efforts of the Society for library, rent, Ac., was carried forward. Ibis had been reduocd to .£24 Is 6d. and the Sooiety also paid in addition. Jc tho obligations of tho Society were to be hononrably kept, it was imperative that subscriptions be paid striotly in advance. The. rules brought into force at the beginning of the year regulating the attendances of .members at rehearsals had been inoperative, owing to members allowing minor engagements to interfere with their attendance at praetioes. On the other hand, a seotion of the choir looked npon a 1 tendance almost as a religious dnty, and of these three were residents at Karori. The Committee recommended that no further members be admitted unless to fill present vaoanoies in the balanoe of 'parts, and that a 'limit be fixed and no person admitted unless he satisfactorily pass a test, to be determined by the Conductor and Committee. The thanks of tbe Sooiety were due to Messrs. Mao Duff Boyd, G. A. Kennedy, S. R. Kennedy, E. Anderson, H. M'Cardel], Leon Cohen, C. D, Mackintosh, and F. W. Jones for so ungrudgingly giving their assistance at concerts, to 'the President and VicePreiidents, the Conductor (Mr. Parker), tho Auditor (Mr. J,. S.JamieEpn), and the ladies who gratuitously provided the guests of the Booiety_wjth refreshments, whioh were ci crywhere appreciated and formed a desirable break in the last eonoert programme. Thereiwr^andbsJanpe-sheet were adopted. Mr. Bjtohey proposed, and Mr. Young seconded, , tha^Mr.r Maughan Barnett be eleoted ooniduofor. ' Mr. Whittal proposed, and Captain Barolay seconded, the re-elec-tion of Mr. B. Parker.
