Accordingly on Tuesday the Stock Department gave instructions to have the vessel isolated as far as possible. One of the animals died yesterday, and Mr. Holdernesß, Chief Inspector of Stock, is awaiting instructions fixm Wellington as to whether a pott mortem examination ia to be held. The gentleman in oharge of tho Btook hits given the Department full power to hold the post mortem examination, feeling perfectly sure that none of tho animals are suffering from pleuro-pneumonia. The captain of the ship will not allow the animal to be opened on board, and the authorities, fearing that pleuro-pneumonia may have been the cauae of death, do not want to have the carcase landed. There the matter stands at present, and as the steamer leaves for London to-morrow, little time remains for action. * [On the captain declining to allow the dead beast to be out up on board, tho Stock' Department immediately took aotion under the Stock Act. As the Inspector had no legal power over the dead beast he immediately took possession of one of the living beasts and had it dissected on board, with the result that it was discovered that it was anffering irom pleuro-pneumonia. The captain will be compelled to burn the carcases of the two dead beasts, and was not permitted to land them. The steamer was to leave for England this afternoon, and the Stook Department has telegraphed to let her go. All Queensland cattle ore slaughtered in quarantine at Deptford, so that the surviving cattle will be examined by the English authorities there, and some may be passed for food.
