I PRESS ASSOCIATION. | Dunedin, 6th April. The police have made a successful raid in Edendale and Fortrose for sly-grog selling. Informations have been laid in four cases, mostly ex-licensed houses. Hokitika, Gth May. A preliminary meeting to establish a dairy factory has been held in the Town Hall. It is proposed to establish a central faotory at Hokitika, with threo oreameries. Beefton, 6th May. There are great feara for the safety of Patrick Gillin and two othor men who left Twelve Mile, Grey Valley, three weeks ago for Gillin's station, Upper Grey. They had only 14 days' provisions, and a fierce gale has ocourred since their departure. Search parties are ont. Gillin is an old and respected settler, and has a wife and grown family. Christchurcb, 6th May. To-night the City Council appointed Councillor £. Smith, hitherto lieutenant in the Fire Brigade, to bo superintendent, in place of Superintendent Tnrton, resigned It was decided to make arrangements for a paid brigade of 30 members, if it is found practicable; single men residing at both stations to be fed and lodged in lieu of receiving cash, and firemen not living at the stations to be paid .£lt> per annum, and tbe foremen of companies £20 per annum. This Day. Fifteen men were selected out of 50 yesterday by the Labour Bureau to go to roadwork at Galatea. Miss Johanna Eraser, one of the victims of the accident whioh took plaoe on the Switchback Railway some mouths ago, has commenced an action for £1000 damages. At an adjourned meeting of the creditors of A. J. Oumming. the Offioial Assignee Btatod that had taken legal advice as to liability of tho authorities of St. Mary's Catholic Church for debts contracted by tbe bankrupt in connection with tho recent exhibition, and had received the opinion that the question did not o ncern the Official Assignee as administrator of the bankrupt's estate, but that if. any creditors or others wished to test the question it was for them to bring an aotion. In reply to a creditor, the Official Assignee said is was not at all likely, in view of the opinion he had received, that he would examine Father LeMenant dcs Chesnais.
