CITY COUNCIL.

>> The only member absent from last night's meeting of the City Counoil was Councillor Petheriok, who is ill. Leave of absence was granted to him. Messrs. G. W. Moorhouse and J. Hollis and fcir E. O. Gibbea attended, and offered £25 from the residents of Angus-avenue, Newtown, towards the improvement of the thoroughfare if the Council would take it over. Referred to the Public Works Committee, the Surveyor in tho meantime to prepare an estimate of tho co*t. It was decided that the City Reserves Committee should consider the question of framing a by-law to prevent the depasturing of cattle in the publio reserves. 'Ihe Town Clerk was directed to advertise for tenders for the right of advertising on the fenoe of the Drainage Engineer's yard, Te Aro. There were four tenders for the formation of Rolleston-streot, and that of Mr. Cornelins O'Connor was accepted. The resolution of the 25th March adopting the Pnblio By-laws Amendment By-law was confirmed. The Plumbers' Committee recommended aa follows:—1. That all master plumbers who have hitherto been licensed be granted a provisional license up to 31st March next, on the understanding that in the meantime they pass the examinations. 2. That journeymen plumbers who have passed the examination in practice be granted a provisional license to do Corporation plumbing work till 31st March next, so as to give them the opportunity to pass tho examination in theory. 3. That tho City Purveyor be empowered to give a provitional certificate to any newcomers applying for same, if he considers them qualified, such certificate to last only till the examination which takes place next aftor rrantiug same. The Committee had no recommendation ti make with reference to tho examinations, being of opinion that the arrangements in connection therewith should be left entirely in the hands of the staff of the Technical School. The report was adopted after clause 1 had been amended, on the motion of Councillor Devine, so aa to read as follows: — '■ That all master plumbers who have hitherto baen licensed be granted a provisional license up to 31st March next, it being understood that in the meantime they present themselves for examination." 'J ho report of the Publio Works Committee was considered. The following clauses wore refenod back for fnrther consideration: — (a) '1 hat consent be granted to tho right-of-way off lugestre-street applied for by Messrs. Chapman & Tripp on behalf of Mr. John Boss, subject to the condition that no further buildingß be ereoted there. (6) That consent bo given to the light-of-way at Oriental-terrace, as applied for by Messrs Levi and Bolt on, on behalf of Mr. E. J. Hill, subject to the same conditions as mentioned in the preceding clause, (r) That notices in tho form drawn up by the City Solicitor he served npon Mr John Staples and Messrs. John staples and Co. (Limited), with respect to the water from the Grantroad spring-. All the other clauses in the repoit were adopted. 'I bo question of football at Xcwtown Park was referred to the Reserves Committee. A motion by Councillor Myers, " That the open drainage now running alongside the steps in Moore-street be covered in, or the nuisance caused thereby be in Borne othtr way abated," waß referred to tho Public Works Committeo.
