Hoare (who met with a very unfavourable reception), with Mr Gourlay, proposed an amendment that the present time was inopportune, for which only two or three hands were held up. Eaoh speaker referred to the foot that the fruit trade in Wellington was almost entirely ia the hands of Chinese. An Anti-Chinese League was formed.
