Inconsequence of the terribly tompostnon weather of Saturday, the 13th inßtani preventing the attendance of Wollingto buyers at Otaki at the sale of this IMPORTANT MARINE TOWN, we have to aunonnoo that the whole of th nnaold Sections) hare been withdrawn froi private sale, and will be submitted to Publi Auction at our hacohange Auotion Boome No. 84, Lambton-quay, THIS (THUES DAT) EVENING, 25th inst., at 7.300'0100k T. KENNEDY MACDONALD & CO. (Limited), Auon'oneora. J^ANGIUEU - BY - THE - SEA INTENDING BUYERS TO-NIGHT. BEAD THE OPINIONS OP MEN ON THE SPOT. Remember — The Otaki men were the BuyerE on Easter Satnrday. [Extract from the Manawatu Farmer and Horowhcnua Chromole, Monday. April 22nd] OTAKI. THE NEW TOWNSHIP OF RANGIURU-BYTHE-SEA. There are ranny persons who smile at any mention of the recent sale of the above township, »nd it has been jocularly called " Venice-on-the-boa " ; but for all this, the opinion gains ground that the spot will become the New Brighton of the West Coast. The land is good, and some pretty gardens will yet surround the dwellings that are to be erected. A four-roomed cottage is already there, and Mr. Atkinson is about to erect a two-story residence Then the names of four or five others are montioned.who have made up their minds to build at once. If some of tlioso persons who have bought sections will put up Bomo comfortable cottages, and furnish them docently, there arc numbora of families who would be glad to spend a month in such a place, because they would have the lown of Otnki close at bund, where all kinds of stores oould be purchased, and when auy amusemonts wero on at tho Town Hall a mile's walk ivonld bring them to the door of tho place of sntortainment 'I heso aro advantages wbioh jvery seaside resort cannot boast of. Even Now Brighton, of Cantorbury, is not so aighly favonred, and mauy of the houses chore aro half buried in the drifting sand. What better place could families living in my place from Palmsrston North southwards »o to than Kangiuru? But the owners of sections must build cottages and make the jlaco attractive, and the storekeepers of Jtaki, who will derive a great benefit from naitors, must do all that can reasonably be txpected of them to push lornratd settlement, md they will gain advantages in other ways. liVhat is to hinder them from getting their foods from Wellington by way of Ranginru ? irVhen tho City of Auckland was wrecked 15 rears ago, tho steamer Lyttelton brought the sargo to the mouth of the Rangiuru stream, md any 25-ton boat can work up to that joint. From thenco to the town of Otaki is ibout a mile and a half, and by developing .be coastal trade for merchandise it will jivo employment for carriers. Why, it vould pay now to start a coal yard in Otaki, md got the supply straight from the West 3oast on tho other Island. Kvery boat vonld have to come in with the tide it iB rue, bat this is a small matter. Ihere is at proaent at utaki a Dr. Mason, ust from England, who possesses credentials )f tho very highest character, stamping him is a most skilful practitioner. With a fcntleman liko this superintending, what a dossing a sanatorium would bo. Dr. Mason s inclined to settle in this town, owing to he calls he has had, and it will be a pity if lomo united effort is not made to creel a >lace where the sick can got Ihe combined >les9ings of tho bracing son, air and medical ittondance. The Koad Board has promised Mr. Atkinioii that they will fence a lino o* i roes a mile ong leadingfrom Otaki to Rangiuru if he will ruarantee to plant and look after tho trees. >fow, I don't know whother there is to be an ivenuo or merely a line of trees — it on gut to >o an avenue, and I hope Mr. Atkinson will lot think me presumptuous or impertinent or making a proposal. It is this : That )taki celohrato Arbor Day in proper style. Jet tho children be taken out to do tho Wanting on both sides of the road, and the idult residents see to the digging of the mles and filling in. Somebody will say this s shutting Mr. Atkinson out altogether. Dhat would bo cruel. But perhaps this gentleman wonld entertain the young people rith tea and cake on tho beach after the york was over— for a couple of hours would ;oo evory tree planted whon once a start vas made. It wonld provide a pleasant luting for parents and friends— it would bo i handsomo thing to do on tho part of Mr. Hkinson— and Itangiuru-by-the-Sea would igain bo brought before the public in a very ntoroeting way.
