In view of the shelving of the Governor's 3alary Reduction Bill by the, Counoil, and ho non-receipt by the Government of official nformation regarding the steps being taken ;o appoint a successor to the late Sir Robert Duff, the Premier cabled to the Agentjrenoral stating that the new Governor irould have to accept the position with the jondition that the allowances, amounting to £1750 per annum, were discontinued in 'uture. To a previous oablegram the Agent-Gene-ral had replied that, instead of the Governorship going begging, no offer of the position had yet been made by the Imperial Government to anyono.
