RIFLE CLUBS.
The Petono Bifle Club held its final competition on Saturday at 500, 600, and 700 yards, the scores counting for Mr. G. H. Scales' trophy and also the club's championship A fair cumber of members wero present, and great excitement wns onuscd by a struggle b'jtwefn W. H. Balling er and B. P. "Bunny. Mr. Ballinger finished first with the splendid score of 00. At 7uo yards Bnnny via 1 ! S3 pointß behind, after getting a mis* at 600 yardH. However, ho managed to put up a club record for the 700 yards, making the exact number required, 33. Both men then fired three shots eaoh to decide, but again they tied with 12 eaoh, so another shot each was fired, Ballingor eventually winning. The following aro the principal scores -.—
Ballinger wins the club championship, Kirk being second, and Bunny third. Batlinger also wins the gold medal, and holds the champion nhield for the year. Kirk takes a gold medal, and Bunny takes Mr. Trevethick's trophy. The members of the Karori Bide Club held the last of their season's weekly competitions on Saturday last for a trophy presented by Mr. S. Lancaster, ranges 500 and 600 yds, 10 shots at each, the scores made in this match also counting for the club's second aggregate. The following made the highest
•Former winners. Twelve competitions have been held during the second half of tho past season, and six of which could be counted for the club's aggregate trophy. Mr. J. Burns again came out top, with a total of 485. Thiß makes hii third Buccessive win in the aggregates, and ppeaks well for his consistency as a shot His nearest attendants were— J. Murphy, 475 ; B. Randell, 471 ; F. Lißßington, 464 ; and W. J. Williams. 443. The final event of the season, the " field day," takes place on the 24th of May.
