THE ASSOCIATION TOURNAMENT.
Chbistchubch, 30th August. The annual Association Football lournament commenced to-day at Lanoaster Park, when Canterbury met and defeated Otago by 3 goals to 1. The weather was dull and cold, but the ground was in fairly good order. Wilson, Maude, M'Millan,and Montgomery played splendidly throughout for Canter* bury. Peters kept the goal excellently for Otago, and Smith, Wataon, O'Connor, and the M'Millan brothers were prominent all through. Canterbury will play Wellington on Saturday. [A telegram received by Mr. A. Henderson, Seoretary of tho New Zealand Association, states that Furniss, Phillips, and. Atkinson, scored for Canterbury. Otago'sgoal was obtained- from a free kick headed' through by a Canterbury back. The Canterbury men are a heavy lot, and pass welL Mr. Fraser, of the Wellington team, aoted as referee. Wellington's chance to-morrow-is considered to be good.] WANGAinn, This Dat. The match with New South Wales haa> been arranged for 3.20 on Monday, to allow the visitors by the express train to arrivefrom Palmerston North and return the s»m» evening.
