The football match whioh hod been arranged to bo played next Saturday between representatives of the Wairarapa and Bush Unions has been postponed. I UNITED PBESB ASbOCIATION. I Auckland, 28th August The following New South Wales team has been selec^d for the North Island match to-morrow :— Full-back, M'Mahon ; threequarters, Parish, Surman, Dibbs ; halves, Galloway, Barry ; wings, Lane, Edwards ; forwards, Carson, Hanna, Alcock, Loban, Scott, Braund, Sawyer. Mr. Sefton, manager of the New South Wales team, in replying at the " sooial " last evening, said bis men were hopeful of making -a big stand against the North Island team, though, if they wore to take the match on Saturday as a criterion, they would, he thought, have few suooesßes during the tour. A sooial" was given by the Working Men's Club to-night in honour of the New South Wales and Wellington football teams. In responding for New South Wales, Mr. Sefton Baid they were gratified with tbe reception given thorn by tbe oitizena of Auckland. A Wellington representatire, replying for his comrades, said that the Wellington men came determined to win if possible, but would accept defeat in a good spirit. If that fate befel the Auoklanders, he trusted they would maintain a similar good feeling. A well-known football expert who oloaely watched the New South Wales-Auckland match, writes to a friend in Wellington that the visiting team is one which in bis opinion will improve very much and give a good account of itself before it leaves 'the colony. In the Auokland matoh its groat want was combination. - The Now Zealand Rugby Union has appointed Mr. A. E. Weekes, the well-known ex - Canterbury representative player, who has gained muoh kudos as a referee in tho Manawatu this year, referee in the Welling-ton-Taranaki and Wanganui - ManawatuNew South Wales match. C. Hailwood. the original soleotion of the Association Matoh Committee for oentre forward in the team to, represent Wellington in Christchurch in the tournament, has after all obtained tho necoesary leave, aud will go South with the team this afternoon per Takapuna. This will improve Wellington's ohanco considerably.
