FOOTBALL.
THE COLLEGE TOURNAMENT. Tho tournament between the Wellington and Christ' 8 Colleges and the Wanganui Collegiate School will be opened to-morrow afternoon, when the local boys play the Wanganui team at Petone. The Wanganuis came down by the express train last night, and were heartily oheered by the Wellington contingent on the arrival of the train, the compliment being responded to. The Wanganui back division arrives with a very high reputation, and the team is very confident of being able to put down the Wellington lads. Hales (fullback) and Cameron (forward) will be enable to play for Wellington. The Southern boys are expected to arrive by the Flora tomorrow, and will be pitted against Wellington next Saturday, and on Monday the Cothedral City team will meet Wanganni. Mrs. Fir.th (Wellington College) has invited the visiting teams to a dance on Thursday evening, and on Saturday evening a supper and an entertainment will be given to the visiting teams at the Wellington College, Mr. T. Shields will captain the Wellington team in the Association tournatnentat Christchurch, and the duties of manager will be discharged by Mr. Glover. The team leaves by the Takapuna to-morrow. The Pioneer-Empire match (third-class) will be played at Karori on Saturday. Mjr, Hurrell is to act as referee. The two medals presented to the Wellington Junior Rugby Union by Mr. J. Skinner have been won by the Empire Club, runnersup in the Junior contest. There is a referee on the West Coast who. has been penalising perfectly straight passes as "throws forward." The Hokitika Club, through the t West Coast Rugby Union, submitted the question to the Appeal Committee of the New Zealand Union, whioh has now decided that a straight pass must not be considered aa a pass forward. The Manawatu Rugby Union will be unible to its team to Wellington this Beason owing to other engagements, but will visit Wellington, Nelson, and Marlborough next year.
