Timabu, This Day. _ Artilleur, Speculator, Wheedler, and Starling were scratched for the first day's engagements at the South Canterbury Jockey Club's Spring Meeting ; Kire Paka for the County Plato ; and Gillie for the Timaru Hurdles — immediately the weights appeared. Foxton, This Day. At the annual dinner of the Foxton Racing Club Beveral of the speakers commented strongly on the proposal to take one of the two days' raoing from the club, considering the fact that raoing has been continuous in Foxton for the last 40 years, and the present club, during 12 years, has spent abont .£6OOO in stakes, and .£2OOO in improvements. An . opportunity was taken at the dinner to - present Mr. H. Gillies, late starter, with a handsome gold matchbox and sovereign-case ] for his past aervices.
