PAHIAT UA NOTES.

i Our Own Corretpondent. ) Pahiatua, 26th July. The Postmaster-General does not intend to let the settlers in the borough want for anything. A few weeks ago the Borough Council brought forward a resolution praying him to have a postal delivery, which I am glad to Bay he has consented to. About a fortnight later a petition was forwarded signed by 105 settlerß asking him to hare a posting-box erected at F. 6. Moore's premises as soon as the new offices are erected. This the Postmaster-General has also consented to. There is not the slighteßt doubt that this will be a great benefit to the settlers at the north end of the town, as the site chosen is about central. The greatest topic of the day ia the erection of the Mangatainoka Bridge aorosa the river at the Mangah&o-road. Meeting after meeting has been he'd by the Counoil, and nothing has been done — only a lot of talk. The river has during the past four months been eating away the bank on the town ei<3«, -w-itb -tlxe rcoalt tba*6 a largo portion of valuable property baa been taken away, and the Councillors do net k now where to put the bridge, owintr to the bad getting wider, and not sufficient funds raised by a loan to do the work The railway worka. in the district are going ahead slowly, but it is expected to see another election or two yet before the lice is completed. The contractor for the new Courthouse has commenced operations, and should the weather bold fine the work will be completed ia the specified time, namely, twelve weeks. Mr. Sullivan, proprietor of the Commercial Hotel, is having large additions made to the Public Hall, so that travelling companies of any size will be able to perform to perfection instead of otherwise, tho stage being considerably larger, as well as the body of ths ball. lam informed that Mr. N. Thornton will be employed to paint a few scenes for same. Influenza is very prevalent in the district, but I am happy to say that only a few cases are at present serious.

The list of performers at the farewell complimentary concert to Messrs. Thornhill and Phillipß, to be given at the Princess Theatre on Monday evening, iB given in an advertisement.
