Mr. Charles Tnrner, tho well -known operatio singer, died at 1 o'olook this morning from congestion of the lungs, being under 50 years of age. Tho deceased gentleman caught a Bevoro cold on the passage across from Sydney, but it was not thought to be serious, and he was. able to take part in the opening performance of hie Company at the Opera House on Monday, the 2nd inst. It was thon apparent that he was far from well, and it was with difficulty that.ho succeeded in going through the performance. On tho following day he was much worse, and had to take to his bed. Congestion of the lungs ensued, and although all that best medical skill could do was done he continued to sink and expired at his hotel this morning. Much sympathy is felt for Mrs. Turner. [Mr. Turner and his wife (best known to the public as Miss Annis Montague) have long been amongst the most popnlar opera .stars in the colonies. They first made their appearance in Wellington in January, 1882, and have since visited this city on several occasions. The company with which they commenced their present tour of the colony in Auckland last week is spoken of as one of unusual excellence. General sympathy will be felt for Mrs. Turner in her orushing bereavement.]
