THE TUAPEKA ELECTION. MR. SCOBIE MACKENZIE WITHDRAWS. 'By Telegraph.. ( Our Own Correspondent. J Lawrence, This Day. As Mr. Rawlins declines to stand aside in favour of Mr. boobie Mackenzie for the Tuapeka scat, considering that it is unfair that he should be called upon to do so after making such a determined fight at th» last election, the latter, for tho- sake of tho Opposition Party, has docided not to oontest the election. He has, however, promised to rend r Mr. Rawlings all the assistance he possibly can. The Hon. Mr. Larnach i 3 now definitely announoed as the Government candidate, and will probably speak here next Monday night. Mr. Fraser, whose name was mentioned as a oandidate, has retired in favour of Mr. Larnach, the Government having positively refused to countenance his candidature, although he professes to be a true Liberal. The election has been stripped of a lot of its interest owing to Mr. Scobie Mackenzie's retirement in Mr. Rawlings' favour. The latter will make a good fight, but Mr. Larnach will easily defeat him.
