The final heat for the Third Cla«s Championship was commenced on No. 1 wicket, Uasin Reserve, on Saturday, between the Wellington third and Kilbirnie second elevens, tho succes-ful teams in the recent semi-final bents. The Kilbirniea won tho to?a, and batted first, being all dismissed at 4.15 for 82 runs. Mowbray, Cowlam, and Fogerty were all run out. but to counter, balance this bad luck Fogerty was let off four or five times while scoring his 34, which, however, included some very fine leg hits. Edwardß 18, and Dean 9, also made a very serviceable stand, after which the wickets fell rapidly, being divided by Bethune (2 for 23), Judd (4 for 34J. and B. Meek (1 for 9). The Wellington third started batting at 4.30 p m., and with none tbe best of the light they had lost 8 wickets for 24 at 5 15 p m., when stumps were drawn for the day. The match will be resumed next Satnrday, when there is every prospect of a close finish. A match between the Tailors C.C. and Staples' C.C. resulted iv a win for the former by 47 runs. The Tailors made 9" and Staples 50. The match between Shannon and Manukau, to decide the tie for Mr. Wilson's Challenge Cup, was played at Otaki on Satnrday, and resulted in a win for Manukau by 42 runs on the first innings.
