♦ i'Bt Tiligbaph.i {Our Own Correspondent.) Palmjkbbton North, This Dat. The Management of the Union Bank have accepted the tender of "W. Pegden at .£Bl5, for alterations and additions to the bank. There were several tenders from Wellington. A farther meeting was held last evening for the purpose of considering the steps taken to acquire a sports ground. There was a large attendanoe, and the Mayor presided. Eventually it was dooided that steps be taken to obtain power for the Council, by Act of Parliament, to lease a portion of the Recreation Beserve to the.Athletic Association, and the meeting was, adjourned to allow a deputation to wait car the Council in respect to the proposal. /,* The Society for the Prevention of Crawly to Animals has been very active durin&nie past month, and its inspector has obfctfned several convictions against persons enlarged with crnelty. At a meeting of tho, jfooiety held yesterday it was decided to write .to the Borne Society in order to h»TT»the Palmerston Society constituted a fcciety in itself. The Inspector reported several cases of cruelty to sheep by overcrowding trucks which had come wider notice, and the Society decided to proseontfTin all futnre caaos. / ' .
