The Minister stated that ho bad arranged with the Minister of Lands to take on a number of men at Cheviot. He had also advised the Govorninont to start one or moro State Farms. They might rely upon it that the Department of Labour would see that tho Christchurch men get their fair share of any co-operative public works in progress and that the Government would put all work in hand tbie winter that finances would permit. The proposal to subsidise local bodies was a Cabinet matter, which would be considered by the Cabinot after tho Premier's return to Wellington. Ho was now telegraphing to the Premier on the subject.
