Tho tramline suffered so severely that it mil take three months to repair the damage. Traffic in the district ia entirely suspended, the bridges being impassable. Tbe stationholders suffered soveroly. The Woodbrook homostoad was destroyed, and a Chinan^an drowned, the rest of the occupants having- nanow escapes. The Shoelook station is also completely ruined.^ All the buildings were swept away, and the' inhabitants, including some women, had to fly to the hills, wading- up to their waists in water. Twenty-six inches 6f rain fell at Croydon, and 30 inches at Woodbrook. The Hoebourne gauge was blown away.
