♦ HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Mr. Pinkerton presented further potitions in favonr of a compulsory half-holiday on Saturday Mr. Dnthio presented a petition in favour of the Direct Veto. Sir John Hall asked why the return quoted by the Premier in his speech in the Financial Debate with reference to the working of the co-operative Eysteru was not produced ? The Premier said he had promised to lay the paper on the table, but he found it was not a return, bnt information from the Departmental officers. Sir John HalJ, who spoko with great heat, strongly challenged the Premier's argument, and he was reminded that the Speaker had previously rnled that this paper must bo laid on the table. After further discussion tho Speaker ruled that the paper in quostion was an official document, and should have been laid on the table, though as the Premier now admitted this no action need be taken. Mr. Buokland moved tho adjournment to discuss reflections made on the Opposition by the Premier in Jnly. 1592, in stating that the Opposition would not object to coloured labour being introduced to gather oysters. He threatened to "teach the Premier to attack him." Tho Premier moved that tho words be taken down, but the sense of the Honse was against this. Mr. Speaker compolled Mr. Buckland to withdraw his words. The motion for adjournment was not seconded, and therefore lapsed. | Left sitting. |
