At the Employers' Aesociation mooting-, it was agreed that the prosent Shop Assistants Act gives every facility to assistants in shops , for a weekly half-holiday. The Association protested in toto against Mr. Shnra's Re- - ■traint of Monopolies Bill. With regard : to the Shipping and Seamen's Bill, it was resolved that a telegram Bhonld be sent to tho Government pointing ont that the Bill , was unworkable, und if passed into law i would be very prejudicial to trade and i commerce. : Chbistchubch, 25th July. ; Tho City Council and Linwood Borough ■ Council have arranged to find work at 5s a ■ day for a number of the unemployed. , The Selwyn County Counoil to-day resolved to intimate to the Koad Boards within , the county that they will subsidise them . at the rate of £ for £up to .£2O for works i undertaken for the purpose of giving immediate employment. , Napiee, 25th July. j Hitherto not much has been heard of the f unemployed in Hawkes Bay, except in the large inoroase of swaggers in the country ] districts.
