The policn have obtained evidence clearly pointing to tho prisoner Eobert Wallath dm the person who appeared an a highwayman on former occasions ; also as being connected with Hcvorul burglaries recently committed in New Plymouth. A singular part of tho affair is that ho waa employed by Mr. Fnrlong, hairdresser, to secure the door of his shop by fixing a heavy iron bar inside. A few days afterwards Mr. t'nrlong-'s place wns brolcon into by someone boring through tla weatherboards and removing the iron bar. Tho police found fiomo of tho things stolen from Air. Fnrlorg's in tho prisoner's bedroom. I'iiaoner nas afterwards employed by Mr. Furlong to r"pair the damago which tho evidence doiv shov.s that he had himself committed.
Yesterday's Taranaki Daily News says that the prisoner's parents are respectable residents at Westown, tho father being a contractor. The prisoner is 21 years of age, and lives with his parents.
