THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION'S PROTEST.
I Bt Telegraph. | I UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. I Auckland, 20th August. Letters have been forwarded by the council of tho National Association of New Zea1 land to Mr. Gladstone and the Marquis of Salisbury re the late Ministerial cablegram to Mr. Gladstones. That to Mr. Gladstone says :—": — " While feeling it their duty pubi licly to protest against the improper and uncalled for interference of the colonial Government, the Conncil dosiro that you, sir, should not consider their protest to be directed against yourself or the Party you lead in this colony, as in all other parts of tho Empire. Your long public career and eminent abilities command admiration and respect, and the Council's objeotion to the action of the Now Zealand Premier is not based upon Party consideration." The letter to Lord Salisbury merely encloses a copy of that to Mr. Gladstone.
