At a, meoting of tho Permanent Building Society, to-night, it was resolved to support the Southland Society in urging that building societies as well as savings Banks Bhould be exempt under tho amonded Land and Inaomo Assessment Act. At the funeral of Judge Brood this afternoon^ the service was performed at St. 1 Mary's by Archbishop Redwood, tho Very 8 Reverend Father Mahonoy and Father Landaur. The Archbishop delivered an able i funeral oration, eulogising tho publio and private virtues of tho docoased. Christchurch, 19th August. Tho annual meeting of the Now Zealand Amateur Athletio Association was hold to-night. The report showed a credit balance of £40 9b sd. Mr. H. D. 8011, Wellington, was elected President, and Mr. L. A. Cuff Secretary. It was resolved to hold the next championship meeting in February, 1893, t provided a suitable track can be guaranteed. - It was agreed not to join in the scheme for i holding Australasian championships. * Palmebston North. Hudson was concluded - this morning, Judge Kottle dociding that tho s adjudication must bo uphold, costs to bp paid f out of tho estate. Mr. Jelliooe, counsel for the debtor, gave notice of appeal.
