Widow and Orphans' Society, L.0.0.F., M.U.

The q'tfdrfarly meeting of tho members of the above socioty was held at the Oddfollows' Hall, Lamblon-quay< Idst evening. Thero waa a largo attendance of members, and President J. Kershaw occupied the chair. The minutes of the last meeting having been rood and confirmed, the Secretary, P.P.G.M. M'Kenzie, submitted the 168 th report and balanco-shoet, which were read and adopted. The report stated that since last meeting they had to announce the dcai.li of Bro. E. J. Baker, a worthy and respected member of tho society, who had loft a widow and five children to lament their loss. The books and aocounts of the Society had been carefully audited, and woro certified as boing correct. The total amount of funds belonging to the Society is .£1522 11s Od. Of this amount .£1466 is lent on mortgage on freehold security, .£56 11s lOd is deposited in the Post Office Savings Bank at the ourrent rate of interost, and there is a debit balance of Id. A report was received from P.P.G.N. Loslio relative to the valuation of the Society, which was read to the meeting. It was moved by P.P.G.N. Waters, seconded by Bro Hart, " That tho Trustees, the Auditors, and Bros. A. Guise, A. Irvine, I. Clark, and H. Blair, with tho officers of the Sooiety, be a oommittee to consider the report of Bro. Leslie re valuation of 'the Society, and report at a Bpecial meeting to be held on the 17th December next." On the motion of P.P.G.M. Waters, seconded by P.G. Blair, it was rosolved that the application of the widow of the late Bro. Baker for the funeral donation for herself and ohildren be granted, and that a letter of condolence be sent to her. It was resolved that the Socretary be requested to furnish" the pro C.S. with a return, numerical and financial, of tho Society to date, to bo forwarded to the Nolson district for inclusion in the Jubilee report. The sum of £19 16s 4d was roceived during the evening. It was agreed that the meeting of tho committee re valuation report should be held on Thursday evening, tho 3rd December, at the Oddfellows' Hall. After tho usual amount of routine business, tho meeting was closed with a vote of thanks to tho Chairman.
