CRICKET. MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION.

A spocial meeting of the Cricket Association \wos held last evening in tho Club Hotel, Mr. C. W. Bonbow, ono of the VicePresidents, being in the chair. Tho sub • committee appointed at tbo annual meeting to go through the rules and suggest amendments, announced that they had completed their work. Mr. C. Cross, a member of the committee, moved that sub-section 2, of rule 3, should be altered, so as to provide that tho Association should oonßist, in addition to the officers, of three delegates from each firstclass club, two from each second-class club, one from each third-class club. [The existing role provided that each subscribing club should appoint three delegates.] The motion was seconded by Mr. C. Dryden. Mr. F. Kolling protested againt the proposal as a great injustico to the junior clubs, and moved as an amendment that no alteration should be made. The amendment was seconded by Mr. C. Gardner and lost, the motion being carried. On the motion of Mr. Cross, seconded by Mr. Littlejohn, it was resolved that the committee should consist of two delegates from each first-class club and one from each second or third-class subscribing club, to bo nominated by their club. Several minor amendments were made. Mr. H. D. Bell expressed the opinion that it was injudicious to go on altering rules which had just been amended at the annual meeting. He asked the mooting to pause before adopting tbo amendments proposed by tho sub-committee. Mr. R. Blacklock thought that there ought to bo some finality about altering the rules. They had been amended recently at the annual meeting, and now further alterations wore being mado. Mr. Cross moved the amendment of rule 14, so as to provide that a common annual capitation of 3s 6d should be paid by all members. The resolution was seconded by Mr. Littlejohn, and lost. Mr. Cross proposed that professionals should not be allowed to play in champion* ship matches. ' The motion was seconded by Mr. G. Webb. Mr. Littlejohn thought it would not be in tho interests of cricket that professionals should bo allowed to take part in the matches. Mr. Bell said that the Marylebone Club, the chief club of tho world, played both professionals and amateurs, and the same thing was to be seen in other good clubs at Home. In his opinion it would be a great mistake for the Wellington Association to exclude professionals, and ho trusted that the resolution would not be passod. Mr. Kelling spoke to tho same effect. Mr. G. Webb said that if professionals wore allowed to play the richest club in the city would have an advantage over those which could not engage professionals. The footballers deprecated the employment of professionals, and he was surprised to find an effort made to bring them into cricket. In Dunedin a professional had been engaged, but he was not allowed to play for any club, although permitted to take part in, interprovincial contests. Mr. Dryden explained that the Dunedin professional ref orred to wai engaged by the Association and not by any club, and consequently could not play in championship matches. Tho resolution was lost by 10 to 9. Mr. Cross mentioned that the Committee were of opinion that the rules of the Marylebone Club Bhould be printed along with the amended rules of the Association, and he moved a resolution to that effect. This was seconded by Mr. C. A. Knapp and agreed to. Mr. P. P. Webb wished to bring forward a matter not relating to the roles, but the Chairman ruled that general business could not be introduced. Mr. Webb pointed out that the advertisement calling the meeting stated that the business was to deal with the rules and general business. The Chairman explained that a mistake had been made in stating that general business wm to be dealt with. A vote of thanks to the Chairman brought the meeting to a close.
